A Tale of One Kitty: Jumbalaya
Greetings, humans! My name is Jumbalaya (or Jumby, as some folks like to call me), and I’m a handsome two-year-old Tiger Tabby. I think my life has been kind of interesting, so thought you might enjoy hearing about it as well … after all, we have nine of them!
I was a homeless hobo in Iowa for the first part of my life, but luckily, I was rescued and brought to Minnesota. I lived in few foster homes where the people were all very nice. They loved me, helped me begin my weight loss plan and wanted to help me find a forever home. In January 2011, I was adopted by a family of three: The Mom, The Grandpa and The Boy. There are also two parakeets, along with a Lhasa Apso and Tibetan Terrier. The Mom and The Boy loved me right away, but The Grandpa had it in his head initially that he didn’t like cats. I know … that didn’t make any sense to me either! But after being around me for a few weeks, he’s come to his senses and loves when I snuggle with him. I don’t even mind that he calls me “Jumbo.” My canine siblings sometimes bark at me and chase me around, but it really doesn’t faze me. I know who’s the boss, and it isn’t them! Silly dogs. Besides, I have my claws, and although I’ve never scratched them (I’m a pretty mellow fellow), I enjoy teasing them!
I’ve always been a good-looking guy, but I really, really like to eat and was pretty “super sized” when I first was adopted. Okay, I’ll admit it; I was completely out of shape! The Mom has been careful about how much she feeds me, and I have the run of the house. Add in “play time” with the dogs, and I must say that I’m getting to be a very slim and sleek fellow. Now that the weather is nice, The Mom lets me enjoy the outdoors in my fenced yard under her watchful eye sometimes. But when I hear the sound of my kitty kibble dropping into my bowl though, I rush back in. What’s nice is that now that I’m getting lots of activity, I can eat more. Humans, take note!
So here’s the bottom line: I couldn’t be happier! I’m in my forever home, and The Mom, The Grandpa, and The Boy all love me. I get lots of cuddling and attention, and I even like going to my vet. Thanks, Pet Haven, for helping me get to them! Gotta go for now …it’s dinner time!
