Chevy the Special Needs Cat – Donations Requested
Jan 29th
Cheveyo came to Pet Haven from Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue in March of 2011. He is 2.5 years old now.
Chevy was found at a garbage dump. His ears had frostbite damage and he lost the tips of them. He had scabs and scaring on his back legs as if he had been caught is some sort of animal trap – probably a snare – but he had escaped or someone found him and let him loose.
It seemed Chevy had found good fortune. He became a wonderful indoor fellow who enjoys games of rough and tumble chase with the other cats in his foster home. He gets along with the 2 medium sized dogs there. He loves his foster family too and comes for lap time, enjoys his toys and the windows he can watch the wildlife from. Sunny windows, people to love him, other cats to play with – life is good.
One day recently he did not come for breakfast. This is most unusual as Chevy loves to eat! He was found hiding under the dresser in a bedroom. When drawn out he could not bear weight on a rear leg, was obviously in pain and could only be coaxed to eat a little food. A trip to the vet was in order.
Chevy needed to be sedated to have x rays since he would not allow the vet to straighten out his leg and exam his hip joint. Radiographs confirmed that he had sheared off a portion of the ball of the femur. This loose piece and the rough edge no longer fit smoothly into the hip socket and painfully rubbed muscle and bone. No wonder he wouldn’t walk! Soon he had pain meds to keep him more comfortable.
He was scheduled for surgery on a Wed. and was back with his foster family later Thursday. Chevy had the ball of the femur removed as well as some of the femur to shorten this bone so it would not rub into the socket in the pelvis and cause further pain. Once his muscles are fully strengthened he will walk and jump with only the smallest limp! It isn’t know why something like this happens, for some reason the blood flow to the bone may have been cut off and the bone did not grow as strong as it should have.
Pet Haven has a Special Needs fund for cats like Chevy. We take in cats and dogs with no knowledge of their previous care. Some need to have all of their teeth extracted because of infection in the roots and gum disease. Some have broken bones, others have parvo or panleukopenia. A few, like Chevy, need to have femoral head and neck surgery because they were dropped from a balcony or jumped and landed wrong.
All of these procedures are ones that we have a responsibility to resolve to provide the best quality of life we can. We are able to do this only because we have generous donors, like you. If you are able to make a donation to help cover the cost of Cheveyo’s surgery it will help us to offer this much needed care to him and others like him.
You can click here to make a donation on line from our website or can send a check to our mailing address:

Earmark it to Special Needs, to Chevy, or to other causes such as spay and neuter. We appreciate donations in any amount, small or large! Can’t make a monetary donation right now? Think about volunteering for us or another group, hold a garage sale when it is that time of the year, like to scrapbook? make and sell cards to others.
Chevy says thank you!
Look for further updates on Chevy as his healing progresses!

Brothers
Jan 28th
These two, 5-6 month old, flame point siamese x brothers will be up for adoption soon!
Aiden (left) and Quincy (right) are a nice pair and we hope to find a home for them together.
They love to play and move through their foster home together often as well as sleeping and grooming each other.
Like cats who seek you out for attention? Those who love to purr in response to being talked to as well as pet? Those have extra thick coats that are soft and warm?
These boys would surely brighten up a home!
Banjo’s Happy Tail
Jan 28th
Here is another Happy Tail from the family of a Pet Haven alum. We love hearing these stories!
Here’s an update on Banjo and I’ve attached a few of our favorite photos from the previous year:
Super Banjo is still going strong, although he’s had no use for his cape this winter due to the mild weather. He’s lightening fast without it – the squirrels in the backyard quickly scatter whenever he’s around.
Although Banjo has the same energy level as when we first got him, his face is getting even whiter as he gets older (hard to imagine I know!). His favorite spot this winter is laying in front of the fireplace after Chris gets it roaring. If there’s no fire, he curls up on the couch under the blanket. It’s certainly exhausting being on guard duty all the time!
We took Banjo on some fun hikes this past year and found out how much he likes investigating holes. On the trips when we couldn’t take him along, he stayed with the grandparents and their three dogs without issue. He’s gotten continuously better with other dogs, but is still terrified of children.
Banjo continues to be a fun and energetic (and snuggly) member of the family.
A New Home for Penny
Jan 24th
This cute girl was named Gracie when she was with Pet Haven and has had a name change to Penny! Pet Haven received this note from her family:
A happy new year to you and your family. I wanted to drop you a line and send a few pictures to let you know how our little girl is doing. Penny is growing up but still has a lot of puppy in her. She LOVES to play, go for walks, tease us with her toys, crawl up on a pile of pillows, and cuddle. She has totally taken over our house and hearts. I’m pretty sure we have become her pets. My grand-kids love her and are always posting pictures of her on their Facebook accounts. Everyone that has spent time at our house smiles the minute they see her. She smiles back! She’s pretty much staying at a weight of 72 pounds and the our vet and staff laugh at her when we take her in as she is trying to kiss everyone and get the heck out of their! She has also learned to be a good girl when we take her in to be groomed. Nail cutting is something she does not enjoy but she has the most loving disposition and her defense when she is uncomfortable is to give kisses. She also has a squirrel that lives in one of the trees in her back yard who she loves to chase. I think the squirrel gets the better of her as it jumps from tree to tree while scolding her with her following on the ground. It is hard to believe she has been with us over a year. The picture of her laying on her back (abused dog) is one of the latest and you can see how much she has grown.
Thanks again to you and all those at Pet Haven that made Penny’s happy life possible. She is one happy girl and we love her.

Beautiful Cats Almost Ready for Adoption
Jan 23rd
These pretty girls will soon be able to come for adoption events. They are 5 month old females and get along well with each other or another cat or kitten. They are all very affectionate.
Colette – a short haired dark torti
Babette – a brown tabby with white and the cutest white stripe on her nose
Josette – a long haired brown tabby torti who definitely loves her lap time
Koko
Jan 23rd
This pretty girl came back to Pet Haven after being adopted and in another home for about 18 months.
She and her foster mom have been reunited and both are as happy as can be to be – together again!
Koko was head-butting and reaching out for attention before she had been back a week. This lucky girl is now in her forever home.
Stan and Jack
Jan 23rd
These two brothers are living at a vet clinic that Pet Haven works with. They are looking for a home – together or, perhaps, with another cat or dog.
Both are light orange tabbys and are almost the same color. One has slightly darker coloring. They have deep gold eyes too – handsome fellows.
They are friendly and very social guys, enjoying games of laser light and fishing pole type toys with you, some time to cuddle and sleeping on the bed at night.
This is Stan on the left, and Jack on the right.
They also entertain themselves well – toys, if you don’t have enough, you can go out and get more! Or, the boys say they’ll find some common household items (pens and pencils, q-tips, small pieces of paper) that look interesting and they will try them out as toys too.
You’ll probably need to have the wastebaskets and kitchen basket secured also – you never know what you might have thrown away that could be played with!
Do you have bookcases in your home or other shelving? It’s always fun to jump up there and see what things look like from the heights.
All of that fun makes kittens so enjoyable. You’ll just need to put away the dried flower arrangements and the breakable, collectibles and provide windows and a fun perch so they can be enjoyed.
Do you feed the birds and squirrels outside? Stan and Jack would love to be bird counters.
Jack
Stan and Jack say hi, they’ll be attending many of our Pet Haven adoption events or can be visited at the clinic. You can fill out an adoption application here for any Pet Haven cat you might be interested in.
Thank Heaven for Little Girls!
Jan 23rd
Petite, delightful, soulful eyes… do you suppose the song was really written for Gigi?
Thank heaven for little girls – for little girls get bigger every day!
Thank heaven for little girls – they grow up in the most delightful way!
Those little eyes so helpless and appealing – one day will flash and send you crashin’ thru the ceilin’
Thank heaven for little girls , thank heaven for them all, no matter where, no matter who, for without them, what would little boys do?
Thank heaven… thank heaven…
Thank heaven for little girls!
Looking for a lap girl? Gigi could be the one!
Looking for a little girl who will tell you when other dogs are going by the house?
Looking for a cute little button curled up on the back of the couch to see the world go by?
She knows stay, wait, bow and down and is very food oriented so training her is a lot of fun and she is a quick learner!
Gigi loves to play and will fetch the thrown toy endlessly, she also plays well with the standard poodle who belongs to the foster.
Gigi was fostered by someone previously who worked 10.5 hour days – she couldn’t wait to go outside that long and would piddle in her crate. That’s a long day for anyone! She goes to the door to indicate she needs to go outside in this foster home and has never had an accident.
Who is cuter than little Gigi? Not too many!
Zoey’s Happy Tail
Jan 23rd
We love to get these stories and pictures!
“Dear Pet Haven,
We are so happy with our new family member, Zoey! She is the sweetest, cuddliest Labrador and wants nothing more than to be by our side. What a perfect dog!
My husband and I found Zoey online, and Pet Haven was quick to answer our questions and connect us with Zoey’s foster mom. The next thing we knew, Zoey was at our front door for a home visit, trying to crawl up into our laps and giving us her sweet, droopy-eyed look. We knew Zoey would be a great fit and that we were ready to give her a forever home.
Now Zoey is a part of our lives, and we are loving every minute. We have a nice little routine – she wakes us up with a big kiss (better than any alarm clock!) and helps us with every chore around the house. She joins us for jogs around the park and comes on car rides with us to visit with friends and family. Zoey is right by our side everywhere we go!
Everyone in the family has gotten a chance to meet her and are so impressed with how gentle and friendly she is. Our nieces and nephews are crazy about her, too, especially because she is missing one ear! Zoey blends right in at family get-together’s and loves all the attention.
Zoey is such a joy, and we are so happy to have her. Thank you for helping us find our perfect companion!
Jack & Lindsay Zweber”
