Why adopt from Pet Haven?

Thank you for considering adoption! Adopting dogs and cats from rescue organizations is critical to finding a home for every cat and dog.

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue in which animals live with foster families until they find their forever homes. Foster families really get to know the dogs and cats in their care, and provide important information about the animal to potential adopters, so foster families are great resources for potential adopters! For example, the foster family will know if the pet is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention and special needs the pet will have.

Every animal in Pet Haven’s adoption program is examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, treated for any known medical ailments, implanted with a microchip ID, and spayed or neutered. Pet Haven provides a 10-day health guarantee for each adopted animal. Within the first 10 days of adoption, if you or your vet uncover a medical condition that existed prior to adoption, Pet Haven will work with its vet partner to provide medical attention at no charge to the you.

Where do the dogs and cats come from?

Pet Haven receives many of our animals from rural rescue groups in Minnesota and Iowa, as well as local animal control facilities. The rescues Pet Haven partners with are in areas that simply don’t have the people to adopt their cats and dogs. The Twin Cities provide the needed base of adoptive homes to help find forever homes for these animals.

Pet Haven also accepts Pet Haven “returns.” While Pet Haven works very hard to place cats and dogs in their forever homes, we know that circumstances sometimes require people to make the hard choice to give up their pet. Any animal adopted from Pet Haven is always welcome back into our care should the need arise. The animal returns to foster care until it can find a new forever home.
