Tuxes and Tails 2007 a huge success!!

Pet Haven held its first annual Tuxes and Tails benefit on Saturday, October 13th, 2007 at the Millennium Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. The event was sold out with 207 attendees and helped raise over $13,000 which will go directly to rescuing and re-homing dogs and cats. The evening festivities included a silent auction, full course meal, dog/cat fashion show presented by Lulu and Luigi and emceed by Jill Cordes of petstyle.com, and concluded with music by local singer/songwriter Jane Plank.

Thirteen dogs and three cats each had their two minutes of fame and fashion as they were accompanied by local celebrities in the pet fashion show. A majority of the animals in the fashion show were either Pet Haven adoptable animals, or recently adopted companions. Murphy, the one-eyed beagle, wore a hand-knit Peruvian sweater with a monkey design on the back, topped off with a Burberry plaid tie. Moxie, the 7 year old maltese, looked chic in her metallic plaid taffeta bubble dress. Bowser, the 25 pound cat, wore a black hoodie sweater embellished with a peace sign. The fashion’s show grand finale was with Tala the 7 year old rottweiler who came out with angel wings, and sat perfectly at the end of the runway to pose for photographers. As a result of her appearance, she has now been adopted and is living happily in her forever home.

We are grateful to everyone who supported us in our inaugural Tuxes and Tails event and for making it such a big success. Many are already asking us about next year’s event and pledging support. Thank you! Planning for our 2008 Tuxes and Tails event will begin soon and we will announce the date so that you can “save the date!”

We have been able to rescue and re-home dogs and cats for 55 years because of the passion, dedication and spirit of our volunteers, and because of the generosity and support of our members and donors. If you aren’t already a member, please consider becoming a member. You can do so by going to the following link: http://www.pethavenmn.org/about-us.php.

On behalf of Pet Haven volunteers, the Board of Directors, and the thousands of homeless furry friends who have found refuge through Pet Haven, we thank you.

David Thune- St. Paul City Council Member

Dave Thune was born in North Dakota and received his Degree in Architecture from North Dakota State University in 1973.

As an anti-war activist in North Dakota, Dave, naturally, became interested in social activism here in Saint Paul as a member, and, eventually, President of the West Seventh Street/Fort Road Federation, a vocal community organization. As he continued to work in architecture--primarily in historic preservation--Dave also volunteered many hours to revitalize his West Seventh Street neighborhood through political action and group efforts to save historic Irvine Park from the City's wrecking ball.

Dave ran for the City Council and was first elected in 1990. He served for eight (8) years (four terms) and then retired from the Council.

Among his notable achievements have been his advocacy and passage of the City's current human rights legislation and winning the fight to bring qualified female firefighters into the City's Fire Department for the first time.

Dave was once again elected to the City Council in 2003, where he currently represents Ward 2, including West Seventh, the West Side, Summit Hill, Downtown, and parts of the East Side. In this term, he has been a champion of a smoking ban.
