Here is a report on Sister, now named Adeline!

I just wanted to give you an update on Adeline. She’s been with us for about a month but it feels like we’ve always had her, she has definitely settled into the household.
I’ve transitioned her to another food and made the cat box off limits so she is eating well now, and has lots of energy. We’re starting obedience classes at Canine Coach on Sunday, so I’m excited about that but have already been working on some commands which she seems to like a lot.
Walking has been much easier now that Addy is more familiar with the neighborhood and the other dogs living here, we go to the dog parks and she LOVES running and playing with other dogs. We took her up to Wisconsin a few weeks ago. She was great on the long car ride and went crazy swimming in the lake and running around on the beach. It’s going to be a fun summer.
Again, thank you for taking care of her and I hope you and your family are doing well.

Happy new home, Addy!

Busy, active kittens who like to snuggle on the couch with you too. They are fostered with adult cats and 2 dogs. These fellows were born in February 2012 and have been tested and were negative for feline leukemia and fiv, are up to date on vaccinations (but not old enough to have received their last prc and their rabies), have been neutered, dewormed a couple of times and treated for fleas, earmites, etc as needed. They have also been microchipped. Each one’s adoption fee is $130.00.

Interested in adoption of one or more of these kittens or another Pet Haven cat? Go to PetHavenMN.org to see who we have up for adoption. On the same page you will find an adoption application to fill out. The kittens plan to be at the next adoption on Sunday, May 20 from 1-3 p.m. and an adoption application can be sent mid week.

This cute little girl is looking for her forever home!

Hello! My name is Dixie, and I’m 10-years-young. I was dropped off at the shelter with my two pups, and we were separated. I recently had surgery, but am doing great. I’m very sweet and love walks. I weigh a solid 70 pounds, which I hear is a little much for a Border Collie, so I do need exercise every day (and an owner willing to measure the amount of food I get each day and to feed me only a few low calorie treats). I know a lot of commands and try really hard to please you — I tend to get really sad if I’m reprimanded. Oh, and I’m not a huge fan of hyper dogs; they scare me a little! I’m really excited to find my forever home though, so will continue to wait patiently!

Dixie is charming and so willing to please, she’d love to take obedience classes with you, go for walks and help you with your ‘getting fit’ healthy life-style program – just as you will help her with hers! She says she is more than happy to be done with having puppies too.

Garage Sale News!

A Pet Haven volunteer will be hosting a garage sale in Bloomington on May 17, 18 and 19.

Can you help?

Do you have items to donate? Donation receipts available.

Do you have items to donate? Call 952-831-3825 to arrange a time.

Can you help mark items and arrange the weekend before?

Could you volunteer to help with sales for a longer or shorter shift one of the days of the sale? We’ll need folks to help pull out items each morning and put them away at night, sort and pack and disperse leftovers at the end of the sale!

It’s a lot of work but all proceeds go to caring for the dogs and cats we rehome as well as to our spay and neuter subsidy client surgeries.

Perhaps you are unable to commit to life-long companionship for financial reasons or because you are not settled enough? Can you commit to 6 months, or longer?

Pet Haven cats always has some cats who would do better as only cats. They recently had a litter and their hormone level is still high and they don’t like other cats because they are in that protective mode still. Or, they simply do not like other cats!

Some foster homes have other pets, others do not. If you have other pets you will need a room that can belong to the new foster cat until it settles in a little and gets to know you. Some foster homes with other pets choose not to introduce the foster cat to the owned cats and dogs. As long as they have company a couple times a day and can come out of the room to wander the house to get used to house noises for a period of time each day, that works fine. The fostered cat will want attention and interaction from you – that’s the fun of discovering a brand new cat personality!

Anja is one of our mothers from July 2011. Her kittens have all been adopted and she is waiting for the perfect home to come along. This pretty torti does get along with other cats and kittens but she is an example of our need for foster homes.

Anja came to us from impound, the day after she had her babies. Until they were weaned and she was spayed we did not know much about her personality. One of the advantages of coming to Pet Haven to adopt is that we can tell you we think the cat would do well with children (or not), in a quieter setting, is a highly active and gregarious cat who needs lots of interaction. You can be a part of determining what kind of home a cat needs.

If you foster for Pet Haven cats we will give you a cat who has already been in another foster home. You will have a carrier and food and toys and litterbox and litter. You need to fill out a volunteer application found here.

We ask you to keep the cat safe and inside, to treat it in a kind and loving manner and to enjoy it as if it were your own. You will have a foster mentor who can answer questions, talk to you about what it is doing and who can ok the cat into a vet clinic we work with if there is a health problem.

In return we ask you to bring the cat to one or two adoption events every month. Generally 3 are scheduled so you can make some choices. If you can only bring to one a month sometimes, that is fine. Adoption events are 2 hours long and are most often held in Richfield. Being seen at an adoption is what gets a cat adopted although we put up pictures and bios and give them personality on our website which is linked to petfinder. You are a part of highlighting the cat you have because you know the personality and cute quirks and can give us additional pictures to showcase your foster.

Afraid you’ll fall in love? Sometimes we do, some fosters get adopted by their foster parents, others you realize you’ve enjoyed thoroughly but the personality is not quite what you are looking for AND, if you adopt one out, you can meet and make a home for another cat who needs a safe and secure home until it finds its forever home!

Fill out a foster application and ask questions – fostering can add a great companion to your home as well as rescuing one more cat as it transitions to a forever home.
